I am Priya Dogra, and it is my Keto story of losing 22 kg in just 5 months. I had hidden a white dress in my wardrobe for two years. Today, I finally decided to give that another try, it fit me like a glove. Keto has changed my life in so many ways. My body, my spirit, and my soul have undergone a transformation.
I was a ‘fat’ person all my life. I used to shy away from stores that sold fancy clothes, as I assumed that they would not have my size. Furthermore, I always tried to stand behind people in-group pictures, so that my flab would not show.
From wearing slightly fitted clothes, I shifted to wearing loose-fitting clothes. And I gave myself the theory that comfort should be of prime importance.
I don’t even remember the last time when I wore high heels, as my feet just could not support all that weight. My face was so puffy that no hairstyle could make it look better, and my hair quality became so bad that I had one mind of going bald.
Then one fine day I decided to switch to a Keto lifestyle and to be honest had very little awareness of what I was getting into. But I took one day at a time, and today after five months and fifteen days, I have much better control over it. Every day has been a learning experience.

That brings me to a very valid point. Why do so many of us fail on the Keto diet? Is it really that tough? Or are we doing some basics wrong? I have listed below some reasons why so many of us fail to get the best results from a Ketogenic Lifestyle. Just remember, Keto is not a magic pill, it is a way of life.
Why do we fail at Keto?
Don’t fret too much about the diet
The most common mistake that beginners make, is to be strict on themselves when it comes to the breakdown of food. Yes, it is important to stick to the numbers in the macros. But when you are starting out, give yourself the margin of +/-5-10 of each nutrient, besides the carbs. Just aim at keeping carbs below 30g for the first month or so.
Don’t go crazy looking for the perfect Keto foods
Instead of looking for the perfect combination of food, just stick to the macros. And it’s ok to have dal makhani or some days or a piece of fruit on others. Till the time you meet your macros, you will lose fat. In the starting stage, your primary concern should be to get a hang of it.
Don’t cheat too often
It has been observed that most people keep a day in the week to promote carbs. I don’t recommend that at all. I prefer a carb day after two months or more. Well, that’s because I like to treat myself for being so good and to maintain my muscles and leptin levels.
Stop negotiating for eating food
Isn’t it obvious that if you have to check a thread or post in a group, for the harmful or anti-Keto effects of a food, it is not meant to be eaten in the first place? And if you still carve for rice and paranthas, then sadly you need to recheck your commitment to getting fit.
Excess hours in the gym = excess fat loss
Yes, workouts are necessary! And if somebody like me who never moved a muscle is saying it, then you need to take it seriously. But if you think by spending four hours in the gym, you will only lose fat. Then you are only forcing your body to burn muscle for energy. And we all know that if you are on Keto, any excess exertion will trigger that.
Stop going crazy over the reading in the scales
Let’s admit that the majority of people who switch to Keto, are joining it to lose weight. But, we also know that weight is not the only indication of overall health. I can tell you from my experience, that if you stick to the diet, you will meet your target and feel great about yourself. Wooshes are great!! But it is more important to stay committed.
Identify the signs from your body
When your transition into Keto is complete, you will feel full and satisfied at all times. So, don’t go ahead and spoil this bliss by overheating your macros. If you are full, retire for the day and glow in the excess weight loss.
Don’t be a confused Ketoite
If you claim to be on Keto and are hungry at all times, then obviously you are not doing something right. You need to up your water intake, have an ample amount of green veggies. They make you feel full. Lastly, you might have kept a large calorie deficit, which is only making you hungry.
Be the tortoise in the race
Keto shows awesome results for people, who are trying to lose weight. But if you are joining it with the motive of losing tons of weight per week, then please stop there. A weekly target of 1.5 to 2.5 pounds (1.13 kg), is achievable and is an achievable number too.
My only purpose of sharing my story is to convince other ordinary human beings, like me, to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and give it one last try.
You might have given up hope about every getting fit or getting in shape again, believe me, I was there. But if I can do it, believe me when I say that anybody can do it. If you are still thinking and contemplating, I urge you to take the plunge and give yourself a complete makeover.
Do it for yourself !!

Wow! You look amazingly stunning. You truly are an inspiration for all people like me who are desperate to lose weight but are so clueless when it comes to dieting. I have tried so many things but alas failed all the times.
Recently while surfing on the net as to how to lose weight, I came across this low carb high fat diet & further search lead me to your site. Can I, being a thyroid patient who is on homeopathic treatment undertake the ketogenic diet? I’m sure if i ask my doctor the same question, he may just admonish me & ask to eat the normal food. Plz, let me know & also can u tell me how do i calculate the macros…. I’m confused.
Thanks in advance
Priya Dogra
Pls send me a mail. Will discuss it with you.

See i have started my diet on last Tuesday now its been 7 days i’ve lost only 2kg till now. am i doing the diet wrong or i should have lost more.and how do i know i am on ketosis or not.we won’t get the strip here. now a days i am feel more hungry no idea why?.
Priya Dogra
Only 2 kg? Why do you consider that less? It’s a good start. It means 8 kg in a month. That’s very good. Just keep your carbs below 30gms and you need no strips. The hunger cravings will soon go. Stick to the macros and don’t panic when you weigh yourself. Hang in there.

hey I am vegetarian finding it really difficult I am ending up with just not enough calories like I drink a protein shake in the morning and forget to eat and maybe be eat a coupe of eggs in the
night I am done how do I build a healthy diet plan
Priya Dogra
Veg Keto can be very tough. All you can eat is eggs, protein shakes, cheese, greek yogurt, cream cheese and paneer. And that can be very boring. 🙁
Leonara
Hi priya,
Nice to read your experience your doing a good job by helping womens like us, I am 31yr old my height is 5’2 and weight 82.7kg and no kids as of now not planned ,wanted to loose weight badly i tried so many diets but gave up within 2nd or 3rd day, as you said even i get shy to go out in public.
believe me i am googling all the time about keto diet sitting in front of the laptop for an hour but not happy with the recipies, i am so confused what to eat, because being an south indian my food is different from other country who are blogged their recipies, even i went through you tube but i did not find the right recipies., and recently i saw your website i want you to post me any south indian recipies for keto diet.
Anyways i started my keto diet completly stopped rice and sugar intake before looking into your website.
i use to have 2 eggs with cheese for breakfast
for lunch a piece of chicken cooked with spinach, pepper and salt
dinner same the left over.
my only doubt is can we add spices like kashmiri chilli powder dhaniya or cumin powder for the meat to give taste.
please suggest me something how exactly should i follow.
Thanks
Leonara
Priya Dogra
Firstly, do read this link for inspiration, as you and me are very similar. Secondly, you don’t need to have bland food at all. I am having regular food, but I keep a strict control not the carb intake. I hope you have calculated your macros and daily calorie intake before starting. Log in all you eat in Myfitnesspal app, and it will calculate for you your food breakup. That way, you will be in better control. And please keep yourself well hydrated and keep a watch on your electrolyte levels. Or else, Keto flu will be tough to handle. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
Leonora
Thanks for your time but i get head ache everyday and my mouth is stinks, i don’t feel like having food for all three times i have only twice that is my lunch & dinner. i drink 2 or 3 Ltrs of water. No i did not check my macros i will follow as you said.i heard even in dry spices you have carb so how do i go.
Priya Dogra
These are the classic signs of a Keto Flu. They will pass away in a few days. Keep yourself hydrated. Don’t worry about the carbs in spices, our Indian diet cannot be perfectly Keto. Follow the two steps which I told you. First calculate your macros and then log your food details into a good app. I use Myfitnesspal.
janet
Hi,
Tried downloading on my pc coz my phone does not support the myfitnesspal app, mine is a basic phone. how to calculate through online direct.
Priya Dogra
Myfitnesspal can be used on the desktop too. I l also use Fatsecret app, try that.
leonora
Thanks for guiding me priya, i got my fitness app now my question is how long should i follow this? is it for a life time or when should i switch on to my normal food? today i was craving for sweets, tea and biriyani so badly thought off quitting the diet but i controlled, this diet is so strange wherein we can’t eat fruits.
I am very fond of biriyani and cakes don’t know how long will i follow this diet.I’ve taken so many diet but i use to give up in days but keto is interesting at the same time very difficult. and even if i discontinue these days whatever fat i had will it lead me to some health issues or what?
I already have pcod doctor suggested me to loose my weight at the max because my menstruation have stopped since 4yrs back it happens only once in a year i am reall.y fed off taking treatments went through Ayurveda herbal many what i spent is only money and time but no results. only option is to loose weight.
how do i contact you apart from public sites i don’t want this comment in public.
Priya Dogra
I will not make your comment public. You need to firstly do it for yourself and nobody else. And one you settle into the diet, the food cravings will go. Look in the mirror and say I can do this, and I will be beautiful again. Read some good books and listen to good music. See your old pictures when you were thin. You can send me a friend request on Facebook. Take Care. If I can do this, so can you.
